About Go Open Data

Go Open Data Inc. (“GOOD”) is a federal non-profit corporation established in April 2019. Our mission is to support open government and open data principles for sustainable community well-being. As a member-driven association, GOOD provides a forum for knowledge-sharing and skills-building on topics related to open data, open government and the open digital community. GOOD actively facilitates open dialogue and collaboration among all stakeholders that have an interest in the open digital community, and advocates at various levels of government on behalf of its members. Our programs, including an annual signature conference, workshops, webinars, and other events, are designed to promote knowledge exchange, enhance skills, and foster a thriving open community.

Overall Responsibilities

GOOD is now seeking qualified applicants for the position of Executive Director. Reporting directly to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director of GOOD oversees overall strategic planning, fundraising, and day-to-day operations of the corporation. This position leads the organization, manages staff or volunteers, acts as the principal liaison with stakeholders, community groups, the public, and government agencies, and ensures the mission of the corporation is effectively carried out. Additionally, they handle financial management, board relations, and maintain legal and ethical standards. The Executive Director understands current trends in open data, open government and will have experience in establishing effective strategic relationships. Balancing multiple roles efficiently is key in this position. The Executive Director is an ex-officio member of the GOOD Board of Directors.

Specific responsibilities and deliverables for the Executive Director include:
● Deliver Annual Budget for presentation to the Board in collaboration with the Treasurer and Board Chair;
● Oversee the annual income tax reporting to CRA in collaboration with the Treasurer and become a co-signer for the GOOD Bank Account;
● Undertake a Strategic Planning meeting annually to update the existing strategic plan and update the plan with the Board of Directors should the operating environment change;
● Undertake the reporting requirements of Corporations Canada;
● Develop an ongoing financial sustainability plan to increase membership and sponsorship;
● Research and develop a members benefit plan and seek to enhance those benefits over time;
● Coordinate the association Working Groups and/or sub-committees to achieve their stated goals; and
● Pursue partnership and collaboration opportunities to strengthen the value of organization.

Corporate Software Management

The Executive Director, as the operational lead for GOOD will be required to become conversant and optimize the use of the following platforms, but not limited to this list, to meet functional requirements:
● Digital Ocean server service;
● Google Workspace; ● Imgur graphics (used for events photos);
● LinkedIn (marketing and communications);
● Mailchimp (marketing);
● Membership Works (membership management, dues, GOOD event registration and Communications);
● Squarespace (platform for association website);
● Stripe financial service (credit card services integrated with Membership Works);
● Twitter, now called X;
● YouTube (GOODtube account); and
● Zoom (meeting and webinar services).
The Executive Director, in collaboration with the GOOD Technology Lead, will review the technology landscape to assess use of other tools as necessary to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of GOOD operations and services.

Position Compensation

The Executive Director position is a part-time, contract role requiring approximately 200-250 hours per year. Compensation will consist of a base annual honorarium commensurate with the experience of the individual related to the operational requirements of GOOD, a commission related to new sponsorships and memberships, and the related agreement of the duties to be undertaken.
