LUNCH BREAK
Back in an hour
Data governance is having its moment in the spotlight. Following in the footsteps of the unmet expectations of open data and living in the shadow of ‘Artificial Intelligence’, data governance has emerged as a conceptual bucket for all things related to data use, re-use and decision making. Aligned with our values, at Open North data governance is an approach to redesigning the distribution of power and benefit that data can afford, and responsibilizing all actors within their social and technical ecosystem. However, to achieve this end, data governance must become more than a conceptual ideal, and instead be implemented from the practical, technical, every day data use ground up in a flexible, modular, and non-linear strategy.
In this workshop, Open North will unpack its approach to data governance, in which any digital transformation project — from a data inventory, to a privacy management program, to an open data portal, to a data architecture redesign — can be the starting point to a responsible, enterprise-wide data governance maturity strategy. By situating any digital technology project in the larger social and technical ecosystem, our method identifies the necessary data governance considerations to ensure it is responsibly values-aligned with your principles. This workshop will demonstrate our approach through three different use cases, and then open up the format to discussion.
