How can open data practitioners in cities maximize the value and impact of their work to unlock data in the public interest? Years of research and practice shows there is no one-size-fits-all approach. The success of an open data initiative can be enabled—or derailed—by a number of important factors (or “elements”).
On April 21, The GovLab’s co-founder Stefaan Verhulst and knowledge director Andrew Young will host an interactive workshop built around the The Periodic Table of Open Data in Cities. The framework is informed by dozens of in-depth case studies and consultations with open data experts in cities around the world.
During the 90-minute workshop, Stefaan and Andrew will reflect on open data enablers and disablers across five categories: Problem and Demand Definition, Capacity and Culture, Governance and Strategy, Partnerships, Risks and Ethical Pitfalls; and facilitate a discussion amongst participants on success factors and lessons learned in creating open data impact in cities. Participants will learn how to apply this framework in the areas they work to improve the effectiveness of their work and promote responsible data practices.
