Merlin has over ten years of experience in domestic and international development, keenly interested in empowering communities and individuals to reach their full potential. In Ghana, he founded Amplify Governance International Inc. which focused on improving local government systems to collect revenue and provide public services. Merlin has expertise in project management and guiding cross-sectoral groups through strategic planning and collaborative processes. He has led multiple monitoring and evaluation projects across diverse sectors and geographic and cultural contexts.
An experienced leader, Merlin’s mastery of organizational development has evolved in various capacities. For the Surrey British Columbia School District, he developed partnerships across communities to address needs of new immigrant, refugee, and low-income families, improving the quality of their children’s schooling experience. In another role, he coordinated a community coalition for food security on local, regional, and provincial levels, working with leaders from food, health, and agricultural sectors to improve access to local and healthy food.
A Vancouver native, Merlin is currently pursuing a PhD from the University of Western Ontario’s Geography Department. His research focuses on urbanization in developing countries, particularly governance and economic development in emerging urban areas. Merlin holds a Master’s in Leadership from Royal Roads University. He feels most at home on rivers and lakes, after many years leading canoe trips through Northern British Columbia and the Yukon.
